2012 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 12,000 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 20 years to get that many views.

Baby boys vs baby girls

Why does it upset you if your baby boy plays with dolls?

Why does it not upset you when your baby girl plays with dolls?

When the baby boy plays with dolls it’s not right, but when the baby girl plays with dolls it’s perfect?

What if the baby girl is a lesbian?

Food for thought.

How would YOU finance your childs wedding?

I was chatting with some people from work the other day. The conversation turned to our savings, retirement plans & plans for a fixed source of income post retirement.

And I said what I feel. I’m a dunce that way. Must remind myself not to speak my mind aloud in front of other intelligent people.

When the conversation turned to the time when my daughter would get married, I said I’m not going to spend my savings or PPF or retirement plans or take a loan to fund the wedding. I’d just let the daughter team up with the guy & let them both spend what they can afford.

After all, I wouldn’t want my child to marry someone who can’t even afford a wedding, right?

Needless to say, my colleagues were shocked. The gasps & the stares of disbelief I got I will leave to your imagination.

What would you do? Would you give up all your life’s saving & retirement plans to fund your daughters wedding? Or son for that matter?

What would you do post retirement then?

Am I wrong? Should we or should we not let our kids go their own way & spend their own money on their own wedding?

Am I wrong in wanting to be financially safe in my old age?

2011 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 24,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 9 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Explanation

I owe all of you an explanation. I’ve not written anything for many days now.

Work has kept me very busy. I have been given additional expansion responsibilities at work and my schedules have become totally crazy.

Looking at the bright side of working almost seven day weeks, I have no more Monday blues. There, indeed, is a God!

These past few months that I haven’t blogged, I have done a lot of other things that have taught me a lot. I have debated, argued, been let down, lost, won, smiled, cried and generally got myself a back pain working 24/7.

I have come close to this person going through marital abuse and helped to reinforce this person’s thoughts to separate and start life afresh. I’m not too sure if that was good or bad, and I am not going to waste any more breaths on trying to figure that out. I feel there’s really no use in being in a relation where you’re afraid of what might happen next at all times.

So summers are now on their way out and winters are almost here. Change of seasons and hopefully change of work schedules too so I can get back to writing as much as I used to earlier.

November would be a very busy time for me, and I don’t foresee any time that I would get to write, but I will still try.

Till then, play safe.

Do me a favor please…

Will one of you please do me a favor?

Please find me one advertisement on television of a brand of refined oil, milk, tea, home furnishings, anything, in which a male actor does the housework and brings the food?

I’m yet to see one advertisement on television in which the male actor brings in the food.

Why is it always the daughter in law who cooks & serves in “ALL” advertisements?

No shower, no food – The story behind the scenes

Here goes nothing…

You know how you kids always hate it when your parents and/or grandparents always say you cannot have your breakfast unless you shower? Well let me tell you the facts.

Showering daily is good for health. It keeps your body clean and keeps you germ free.

That’s the medical part.

Now the practical/actual part.

We prefer you kids staying stink free in the house, please?

Especially on Sundays.

We’ve tried without success to explain this to you kids for generations without you blinking an eye & understanding it.

So finally, one genius parent came up with this — If you don’t shower (Especially on Sundays, national holidays & summer, winter vacations) the Gods would be unhappy so you don’t get your breakfast.

Alternatively, no breakfast till you shower because you should not eat while the body is dirty & impure. That makes the Gods angry.

After all, we’re ready to do anything to make “you” shower.

We like our homes stink free. God knows we work hard for it.

Please. Go. Shower.

Happy Sunday Folks!
